Poping Out of Gear?
I switch a new clutch kit and flywheels in a LS hydro tranny but now having problems with 4th gear poping out? What could it be? I also switch the shift bushing too.
The shifting feels different now in 2nd and 4th because it seem short or barely pass neutral but 1st,3rd, 5th gears are fine. Share you view on tranny problems and why it might not go into gear all the way thanks.

Are you sure that yoou got everything back together the right way? Is there any binding in the shifter linkage? Can you get the car into Rev?

It drive fine. I pour 4 qt of tranny fluid and it pretty much work good accept it feels weird on 2nd and 4th just pop out into neutral. The car rev fine too the only problem is 4th gear.
The tranny was good. All that was done was a change of clutch kit and flywheel.
I will check the linkage again when i get a chance. Thanks guys.

hmm...if you took it to a mechanic, bring it back and tell them what is going on and show them. - if you did it yourself..id bring it to a mechanic and tell them what is going on and show them.

Re: (DETOUR180)
you change the dial? its supposed to be changed everytime your take apart the tranny. Also, mine did the same **** aside from closer gears.. Turned out there were missing parts when they put it back together.. mine popped out in first gear, i literally had to hold it in till i was ready to shift into second.

Make sure all the bolts are back in the mounts. I took my tranny apart to do my input shaft bearing and didn't put the two bolts back in the rear mount. Made shifting feel diff. and the gear shift would seem to get caught going through neutral. Also made my exhaust shake alot. Threw two bolts back in the mount and all problems went away.

how about, too much fluid. i believe they take 2.9 quarts...if you fill it through the VSS (which im assuming you did since you managed to stuff 4 quarts in) then drain it with the drain plug on the tranny, put the drain plug back in and remove the fill plug, fill the transmission up with fluid through the VSS hole until fluid comes out of the fill plug hole, thats when you know you have enough fluid.

4 quarts? You put 4 quarts of oil in the engine not the transmission. it usually takes 2.5/2.9 quarts of 10w40 or 10w30. Thats why its poping out of fourth.

honda manual transmission fluid....10w40 or 10w30 as a last resort.

Re: Poping Out of Gear? (DETOUR180)
it's popping out of fourth because your gears are worn out. if you grind your gears long enough they stop working. Just like I explained in the link that I referenced earlier.
