Basically, yes. I've never really understood the fascination with the "poor man's Type-R", but I suppose the term appeals to some people.

The fascination of a poormans r is basically what it's named. I doubt someone with a GSR already will slap on a b16 head. It is the other way around. Maybe someone with a b16 head and wanting to get something stronger and more powerful by purchasing a shortblock and mating it with the head. If you really intend on making a poor mans r, atleast change the gsr pistons because it will lower your CR due to the b16 head. While your at it get some type r cams or s2s2's with a nice lsd and it should put some decent power, slightly more than a GSR or so i've seen.

most people do poor mans R because they are piecing together a setup, usually if someone buys a gsr bottom and gets a good deal on a b16 head. Its pretty pointless if you already have a gizzer head. Just change out the gsr cams and stock intake manifold and you got a nice setup to run with.

That is the motor setup that I currently have in my 97 HX...I bought it that way.

It makes decent power, but nothing to write home about. I'd say maybe in the 160whp range?

if you want a little more compression get the head lilled a little and put it a nice head gasket itll help make a little more power. im doing the poor mans type r build but im building the motor hopefuly to 200 whp.
