Poor gas mileage?
Hey guys, I am starting to get poor gas mileage on my 96 civic cx. It's the stock engine boosted with a Greddy 15g kit. The poor gas mileage just started a couple days ago. I filled up my tank on Friday, and now (Sunday) I have only driven about 92 miles and I am already at less than half a tank left. Any ideas on what would be causing this out of nowhere?

Did you just boost recently? How much are you boosting? I could be a number of things: clogged/stuck open fuel injectors, horrible tire pressure, old spark plugs/wires, fuel filter, etc...
You probably already know, but the Honda fuel gauges are notorious for being inaccurate.

my car does this too...it's like random poor gas mileage.
as stated before check your plugs/wires replace fuel filter as needed. You know, go over the tune-up maintenance things.

Ok, thanks guys. Also, what does it usually mean when your plug wires after driving for a while have pushed up. And are no longer securely pushed down over the little metal lip on the VC? I have never seen anything like that before.

I think i need to do all that!! lol I car hear when idle that i need sparks probably will get wires also....and I think imma need to do the fuel filter!! I have a 98 ex coupe how much of a pain in the *** is it to the fuel filter??

i get the random shitty gas mileage too.. ususally on 85 octane i get 200 miles on a tank 95 civic dx stock. and when i tried 91 octane, i got 300.. i dont know... new fuel filter i think... but notice that when i top off, that i get the best milage... yes i know there is more fuel in the car.. but its still weird. is it the fuel guage or the sender that is inaccurate??? cause i would get an aftermarket guage if that was the problem.

Get a brake line wrench to do the nut on the fuel filter. Those damn things are on there TIGHT, and if you're not careful you can strip it using a regular wrench.
Other than that it's cake. Couple of 10mm bolts and you're set. Fuel filter SHOULD be right there on the firewall next to your battery.

The fuel filter replacement on a 6th gen civic is the easiest thing ever... Just pop off the gas cap to de-pressurize the fuel system. Then place a catch can or towels under the fuel filter/fuel lines going to the filter. Take off the lines connecting to the filter and the bracket to the filter. Replace and reverse the steps. Should only take 20 minutes.

FWIW, I just replaced my distributor a few days ago and I noticed about a 40 gallon/per tank increase. Of course my last distributor was shitty and made the car sputter like crazy. I was getting around 210 miles per tank before I put the new distributor in.

Yep. People don't realize gas mileage is related to driving technique.
I know guys that only manage to get 20mpg out of DX's. It's because they drive 80mph on the highway, drive aggressively shifting at 4k rpm everytime etc. That KILLS your mileage!!!
