Poll: H22 or SOHC turbo?

Poll: H22 or SOHC turbo?
UPDATE: I've decided to go with the Z6 Turbo! I'll keep you informed.
with not much avail from the Hyrbid forumn..
Ok.. here's my delimma.. I am shoping for a faster engine for my civic. I currently have a D16z6 in My CX. I am wanting to do the H22 for instant throttle response. But the SOHC Turbo idea keeps sticking around due to the power = $$ ratio.
I like to drive hard, and push the CX sometimes. I already have plans to upgrade the brakes and suspension either way i go. Just need some guidence from those who have had experience with either set-up

D16Z6 on 10 psi in CX....mid 13's
H22 in CX...mid 13's
I'd get an H22 so that you'll have a better platform to get faster times in the future.

Re: Poll: H22 or SOHC turbo? (BauleyCivic)
i have a h22 in my 95 hatch......and for all the money spent itd been easier to just go sohc turbo...sure its cool to pop hood and see that big motor but its not worth it......u can buy 5 of urs..and put them in the back so when u blow u got extras to throw in.........sohc turbo is fast if u knwo what ur doing.....and boost is fun....na gets boring...

Depends on how reliable you wanna go. If you drive hard and use it for daily driving I would stay away from the turbo. Doing the engine swap you have all the same reliability of any Honda engine. Plus there's alot less tuning and maintainence with just a stock h22.

for the money you would invest in the h22, the z6 could have 400 horsepower.
I plan to turbo my z6 in a while as well, a long while.
junkyard turbo would be a good start. Edelbrock is best IMO. </TD></TR></TABLE>
well being a former h22 civic guy, i can say that the h22 was VERY nice. power on demand. but for the same money i could have bought a spare d16 and built it up very nice. able to run 12-15psi. with money left over for traction.
turbo lag is a bit of a bummer, but never underestimate the power of the D

Is money an issue?
If it's not, H22 all the way, no question about it. If it is, turbo D all the way.
No replacement for displacement.

Re: Poll: H22 or SOHC turbo? (hybrid honda)
i going with h22. It is a stock motor so you wont have to worry about all the extra fuel mangment .Which will save you time and money. And there is a ej1 around me that has a h22 with I/E and stock tires that ran 13.5. And last time i checked thats pretty good for just I/E.

the scenerio is this is my only mode of transportation. I commute about 50 miles a day to/from work. so relalibilty is a BIG factor. Also, I'm not much of a Auto-X person or drag racing. I just want something that I would have to maintaine like a regular factory installed engine.
Every once in a while i'll wanna show up some st00pid ricer or v8 guru.. I know, I know.
But, all in all.. Money is an issue to a point. If it wasn't, then everyone on here would have K24 frankenstiens Boosted. :-p

Re: Poll: H22 or SOHC turbo? (Hatch-E)
get an h22 with either a hytech or imagine engineering or smsp header. a good intake, cam gears and a vafc. then hit up the dyno and get it dialed in as good as possible. that should be good for 190 at the wheels, give or take a few depending on the condition of the motor.
it will be as reliable as a stock honda prelude which in my opinion is pretty damn reliable. you can get on it a lot and not be scared of boost creep or detonation.
boost is nice, but for you i think that a h22 will be great. instant power in a nice light chasis is fun.

i was going to say go with a c5 but for what he wants the h22 seems like his best choice despite the gearing. he just wants some instant tq.

Same here. Having to smash a spot in the frame and having the valve cover only half an inch from the strut tower makes me worry about maintance issues.
PLUS, if you blow a Z6 you can always find another one for $300.

HAHAHA!!! What a crock of ****.
Can your H22A "stock" beat this?

Greddy turbo timer
The rest of the motor is stock. My best numbers of the day were 250whp and 251wtq . This was at 10 psi. For some reason i had a spiking issue with the mbc also. It would spike to 12 psi at 5k then settle to 10 psi at 55k (I have since resolved the issue whith the ebc so it holds within 0.5 psi with no spikeing.) So we had to pull a huge amount(7 degrees) of timing out right there in that row, because it would ping for those 500 rpms. It actually messed with the dyno graph as you can see. All in all i am very happy with this setup. As soon as jason comes back we can tune that section back in and will be able to boost a few more psi.

For those that can't see it, that's:

Sorry but that set-up costs less than the H22A and would rape it thoroughly. also note that that set-up is not even "maxed out" and it's also a bone stock D16Z6 bottom end.
Why set yourself up for something like this by saying something so retarded like "an H22A stock would still beat a maxed out SOHC turbo" or whatever?
BTW:
What is your H22A laying down on the dyno? 1/4 mile times?
Thanks

Earlier the H22 was in the lead by about 17 to 5
As of now its the Z6 at 23 and the H22 at 21.
At least the Z6 people are posting VALID reasons why to go that route.

Z6 just cuz of my user name.
Who says you need TWO cams to have fun?
But yeah just for the price you could make a DIY turbo and as many others have said you can find another Z6 motor for fairly cheap.

H22 DOHC VTEC is good still up for more potential and mods!!
SOHC turbo=good, perfect for a poor man to go fast, but that all you can get out of the sohc!!

Does anyone know if any company makes solid mounts for d-series? I'm talking like a complete replacement mount. I was thinking to go with ES inserts all around (all 5 mounts) with new factory mounts. I also thought about Jim Fab's, but i heard they RATTLE LIKE HELL!
