Polished Si Rims

well i decided to polish a set of si rims that were originally gunmetal. i got the paint off and sanded with a fine grit and used some mothers polish but they came out horrible. i would like some advice on how to take out all the fine scratches if anyone know.

ouch, use a much higher grit and then use some high quality polishing shit. Maybe Meguiar's or Mother's or something like that

JDM Like Whoa 08-02-2004 01:49 AM

I would suggest some rubbing compound.

Re: Polished Si Rims (drastikchangez)

i work at a body shop and ive polished out rims to come out looking like chrome, i was also thinkin about doin this to my si rims but im not sure yet. Heres what you need to do

Sand it with 400, if the scratches are still too deep try 320, but then when they come out hit it with 400, then 800, then 1200, and then 2000 if you want to get it really mint. Try mag and aluminum polish and some rubbing compound with a buffer. You can even wet sand to get a smooth finish.

You can repeat those steps untill they are perfect, those rims arent runined but you used too low of a grit to start out with, you should have chemically stripped them first, then sanded from there

Re: Polished Si Rims (tfalconier)

i was like well goddamn that's sweet when i saw the 1st picture, but don't let the little scratches be discouraging, just get an extremely high grit sand paper like everyones saying and RC
