Default Please Help! Oil spraying out of my black box on ctr block

I just swapped a ctr block and b16 head into my sol. the head is untested but off a b16 motor.

the ctr block was my friends and he says its good. When i fired it up for the first time, oil sprayed out of the black rubber hose that goes from the block to the black box. I took the box off to see if it was plugged. its was fine. the rubber hose has the factory clamps on it.

When i say spray, i mean 4 quarts of oil in 1 minute.

Any ideas of what i should do next? check the head if an oil line is plugged shut?

is there even an o-ring on the box, where it goes into the block? And is is bolted down? Even if there's an o-ring, did it get pushed off while installing the box?

The box hooks to the pcv system, going thru the intake mani between runners and into the mani. Another hose (at least on a b18c1 block) hooks to a nipple screwed into the very top of the BLOCK, not head, right above it.

yes the box has the o ring, when its bolted down, it doesn't leak there. is sprays out of the hose fitting that feeds the box on the top side. the hose has the clamps.

is that hose supposed to have so much pressure. The other fitting on top of the box is hooked up to the pcv and the intake manifold.

the oil hose that is spraying feeds from the block

It sounds like you have something plumbed wrong. Even if your PCV valve was shot to ****, or you were hemorrhaging oil, it still should never come out of there. That box is basically an OEM version of a (rather ineffective) catch can.

Check, double check, and triple check ALL of your lines. Get the FSM for a 96-00 Civic, it'll include the diagrams for the 99-00 SI, which should have everything you need to know about your engine setup.

the O ring on that box goes directly into a main oil return passage from the head, if the O ring is gone oil may be pouring out

yea, either the lines are plugged up, or somethings broke allowing the oil to pour out.

the box doesn't leak at all, its the rubber hose that goes on top of it. the nipple is fine and not plugged. when i took off the box and started the car, oil came out of that line just fine. but when i put it onto the box, its like the hole is too small to accomodate the oil pressure.

the box has 2 nipples on top. one is for the pcv line and the other one is the rubber oil line from the block that sprays like a fireman. its only 4 inches long. not sure how it could be plummed wrong.

I feel like something is wrong inside the engine

Oil should NOT be going into that box at all.

if oil is spraying out that hose, you have some serious blowby issues, and your problem is far worse then an oil leak, that box should be under vacuum not pressure, I think you need a new friend because you just got screwed

what the hell is causing so much blowby that it's forcing the oil up the oil drain hose at the breather box?

oil isn't going up. its coming out the oil line that feeds the top of the black box

thats not an oil line on the top of the box, thats the line to your PCV system, that should be under vaccume, the oil has to be being forced out of the pan by blowby

Those are the two relevant diagrams.

It's hose 5 in diagram 1 that you're having problems with, correct?

yours is a little different then my setup, is the PCV valve clogged? if it is all kinds of crankcase pressure could be building up

On diagram 2, there are four plugs on the back of the block, labeled 2, 14, 15, and E-15-13. Which one do you have E-14-1 from diagram 1 screwed into?

Check that. Also check your oil level.

I was thinking crankcase pressure could be forcing oil out the hose from the O ring port in the block, some should exit out the breather on the valve cover, but it can still build up

A clogged pcv system can even blow out oil seals, so it's very possible it's forcing oil up and out that hose, crankcase pressure builds up quick
