Default please help a noob

So I just bought a 93 civic dx, with a d16z6 swap.

The car ran really bad, so I changed the map sensor, and it still ran a bit rich. Well turns out the car has a bad head gasket,
I drove the car like 90miles and it went through a full tank of gas!

I checked the spark plugs, and they where black on the bottom.

What should I look for? the car felt jerky going at a steady speed in any gear.

You could change the head gasket but you may have to have the head resurfaced. Has it over heated? You can also pick up another D series for a couple hundred bucks or upgrade to a b series.

the temp guage doesnt work, so I dont know, but my friend was in the car, who knows alot more about cars then I do, and the car just kind of died on us and the battery and oil light came on, started up and pulled over looked at it, and it seemed to over heat, the lower radiator hose seemed empty, but there was anti freeze, we took the engine cap off and it smoked a bit, then we took the plugs and spark plug wires out, and it smoked out of the first one, Not sure what that means.

I'm certainly not an authoritative expert, but you probably need a rebuild or a new motor.

I'm new here and this is my first try at anything so please bear with me. My '93 EX d16z6 had an antifreeze smell coming from the exhaust last year and the mechanic stated that part of the Teflon on the gasket never took from the factory. After replacement, it ran flawlessly again. Just saying.
