ok my friend an me just got back from lookin at this motor for him , the guy said it was gsr motor the block said b18c but it didnt have the gsr intake manifold it looked to be a b16a manifold , now i remeber there are things we can look for to figure out exaxtly what motor this is , if you please tell me how to identify what head what block an what tranny cuz im thinkin that we stumbled upon a type r motor or a gsr motor with a b16a head ,
pictures showin what to look for whould be great

no its not a skunk2 it was stock , i just looked at a b16 intake maniflod an they look similar

It could be a type r mainifold. They could have cut the flange off on it and put a gsr flange on...thats use to be the big thing to do before Skunk came out with there manifold.

can somone tell me exactly what to look for to make sure what motor it is , like what stamps an where an what should it say if its a r motor

It will say B18C5 on the block. GSR's will say B18C1. Also, if it is a C5 it should have a red valve cover, although anyone can throw one on a B18C1. The best bet is to look at the block for the B18C5 stamp. If it is good condition I wouldn't care what type of IM is on. I would throw on a Skunk2 anyhoo.

jdm b18c spec r's will not have the 5 on them, thats a USDM thing... look at the head stamp inbetween the dist and the exh cam, on the top there should be a number stamp 30 = p30 or b16/ITR head 72 = p72 or GSR head... that will indentify the head, possible that it is a b18c spec R motor, hence the different intake manifold...

ok the block says b18c an i checked the head its a 97 year motor an it said pr3-4 on the head an it has a y21 tranny can somebody tell me what this motor has on it
