does nobody on h-t have an answer?: electric power steering (k20 ek)
i'm in the process of putting a k20a2 in my ek and from everyone i've talked to, u can't use the rsx power steering pump because it sticks up too high and the hood won't close. my friend has an rx8 which has electric power steering (i also heard cars like the nsx have it too) and he recommended that i look into electric power steering. i've searched this topic and all i found was debates on whether or not it's worth the horsepoer gain. in my case, electric power steering is the only way i can go. anyone have information on how i would set this up? where can i find parts, ect...?

He obviously wants power steering. I plan on doing this swap in the future and would like to know. I NEED power steering cause I drive in traffic daily and it would be a pain to drive without it. Bump for an answer. I would also like to know if its possible to keep your a/c with that swap in a EJ8 coupe. And if so, what parts from other cars.

Re: PLEASE HELP: electric power steering (DOHC4life)
it is possible to keep your a/c, you just have to get custom lines made. since winter is coming soon, that will be my project for next spring. i haven't installed the motor yet cause i'm waiting on a couple more parts. i think i know pretty much everything i need to to get this swap running so pm me if you have any specific questions (parts, where to buy, ect..)

That's what happens when the majority decides to jump on the bandwagon and bash certain cars (EP3 Civic Si). If people would embrace the differences, we would all benefit from it.
I assume of course you are referring to the EPS rack in the new Si. Seeing as how you will be using the A2 ECU and wiring, I believe there may be a way to make it work with the proper fabrication. I thought it might be a multiplexed system, but people who swap the A2 into the EP don't report EPS issues.

actually i was thinking that somehow you could have an auxillary power steering pump and hook the hoses that are on the powersteering pump now to an electric auxillary one

Go through that whole thread. I havent gottin to the end yet (page 2 or 3) but I think HASport has lines you can buy to get your powersteering to work. So far that thread has answered many of my questions and some I didnt even think about.

Re: PLEASE HELP: electric power steering (DOHC4life)
i know you can get the lines for it. the only thing i've heard is i think hasport and some other people are building a custom hood that will clear the rsx power steering pump. i still haven't heard anything about electric power steering on a k20 ek.

Re: PLEASE HELP: electric power steering (bgoetz)
no, you can have power steering, you just have to get cutom lines made. the only problem is, when you close your hood, it will push up a big *** dent because of where the rsx power steering pump is mounted. that's why i'm trying to find info on electric power steering (which nobody seems to know anything about)

Re: PLEASE HELP: electric power steering (98b16ex)
Find out what the original PS pump pressure is.
Find an electric oil transfer pump at the correct pressure / an adjustable one / or obtain a pressure regulator/limiter and make some stainless lines.
Is it really THAT hard?

Yes, considering you will need to find one rated for a 100% duty cycle at the required flow rate and pressure.

umm all oil pumps are rated at 100% DC why wouldn't they be?

Not all oil transfer pumps are rated for 100% duty, and also factor in the conditions that will be present under the hood. Post a link to one you find acceptable for the application.

I'm not sure where you get your information from but I've never seen an electric oil pump that isn't rated for continuous operation. You may be thinking of something all together different that myself. Maybe you have on in mind that ISNT rated for continuous operation?
Here's what I had in mind:
Electric Fluid Circulation Pump for differential cooling, turbo oiling, water intercoolers, cool suits, etc. Has internal fan, self priming, and capable of operating in temperatures of up to 300deg.
Flow's 1-2GPM at 54psi
requires 8amps
I don't know what the PS operating pressure is but I can't imagine it being to far from 54 psi, and I would guess it's lower. I'll look in my helms if i remember when im around it.

Are you serious???
At full assist it is around 900 - 1100 psi.

you wouldnt need that... cause PS works just fine at idle

The PS pump will build near full pressure at idle. Static pressure at idle is around 240 psi. Turn the wheel, and it will shoot up as it forces fluid through the rack.

Re: PLEASE HELP: electric power steering (Jim Truett)
Is there room to make a new set of brackets and reposition the pump to sit lower in the bay or tilted to clear the hood?

Re: PLEASE HELP: electric power steering (H.A.R.T b16a1crx)
i havn't heard anything about making the motor sit lower. i think the mounts hasport makes are set where they should be and don't lower.
anyone have info on how or where to find the power steering pump pressure?
