I had bought one of those Knockoff Type-R Grilles for my EK and while i was having that and other parts of my car painted i had the guy at the shop install it and he just called me said he cant get it to fit properly. Please anyone who has installed one of these tell me how you did it.

BTW. i need to know this asap because there is no other grille on my car(the last one was fucked up in an accident) and this is the last thing i need to do to get my car back to norm.

As far as I know, they all should just kinda snap into place. Are the '96-98 grille openings different from the 99-00's? that's the only thing I can think of? good luck man

Did you get the grille and the surround? The grille won't fit without the surround.

yeah the plastic frame that goes around the grille. The Si/CTR surrounds are different from the regular civic ones. They're not interchangeable. Also, depending on if you have a 96-98 front end or a 99-00 front end, it'll be different.

there are these little tab hook things, to use the technical term, on the bumper that part of the grille bezel/surround needs to slide under. otherwise the bezel won't be flush with the bumper. i didn't get those on just right when i first tried putting my si grille on my 2000 dx and the grille looked a little off. hth

It wouldnt matter if its a 2,3, or 4 door... same front end... but yeah what isotopesope said....

yup, check the tabs. That's the only thing it could be unless they sent the wrong grill or the grill is deformed.

welp just got back from the bodyshop the ******* did the shittest paint job on my grille and hood ive ever seen so im not really worried about the grille anymore

with all due respect, a lot of the responses lack knowledge. i have the knockoff grill for the same car, and it was a bit of trouble piecing it in. the plastic grill should snap into place with some effort, making sure everything is lined up correctly. so yeah i think the guy at the shop is incompetent or he just doesnt want to risk forcing it in (which i did, and it fits with no problem, but it's nowhere near oem quality). and if you got the same piece i got, it's a one piece grill, not two piece like the oem ones. hth

yea, i bought one and had the same problem, even when i forced it in and bolted it down, the bottom stuck out like a sore thumb, at least a 1/2 inch gap. btw, it was abs plastic.

That is incorrect, I have a 00 dx and I bought the OEM si grille without the surround piece (the painted part around the grille) and it fit fine with no problems, the exact same screw tabs lined up and it doesnt look messed up or anything. You can use your old surround for grilles, I don't understand why no one thinks they will work. The only things I can think of is that it is not the right grille, meaning that you bought one for a 96-98 and you need one for a 99-00 or viseversa. The other thing I can think of is that you said your front end got messed up in a wreck, well it may have damaged something useful for mounting the grille in your car. And the last thing is that it is a knock off... you shouldnt expect OEM quality from knock offs, sometimes fabrication may be needed to make it work.

this is all really a matter of preference, but i tried this route and was not pleased with the results. thus, purchased the si bezel as well. i think most people prefer the stock si look over your configuration. but either way back to the initial topic, knock off parts will give you knock off quality. you get what you pay for. this fitment issue really could be a part quality issue, a service quality issue, or both.

Right, I understand that. I personally think 60 from honda for the piece is a rip off, and it is all a matter of preference. Here is what mine looks like and you can be the judge.



I just get kind of tired of mis-informed people thinking that it won't fit without the other piece.

that's your car i posted as well. i know you understand, i was posting that for the benefit of others that may think they can just get the si grille and think they're good to go. personally, i don't like the way your grille looks. i feel it is a compromise. again, it's all a matter of preference. i get tired of misinformation as well, but in a way your statement isn't exactly true. i felt that my dx bezel did not fit perfectly to my si grille due to the cosmetic issue, thus your statement could be construed as misinformation. this issue definitely has two sides of the fence and need to have each side explained.

I completely understand what you are saying and maybe someday I will invest in getting the surround piece but not while honda charges what they do for it. If nothing else maybe I could find one off some dork who just put a body kit on his si.

Back on topic, sorry to hear you got such a shitty job of painting but I would like to see some pictures of it when you get them up.
