PLease Help!!!! b16a reving problem
Hi guys... i have a b16a motor on my eg 2door. I have a problem when the car rev till the vtec zone. For example on 2nd gear when i stepped on full throttle, the rev is a bit slow while climbing to vtec zone. Once the vtec kicks in it is all the way to red line is ok... what's the problem for causing the lag for the rev???? is there anything to do with the fuel pump or something else???? thank you...

Have you put the motor in TDC and check to see if the cam shafts line up to check the timing. Or atleast put on a timing light to it. Id start there since its the easiest to do. Good luck bro

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with your motor. When your motor is at 2000 rpms and you mat it, do you honestly expect it to start breaking traction and rollout?
The problem I think is with your logic. Number one, the b16a is infamous for its low torque numbers and it is a well known fact that you have to rev them out to get power. So it makes sense when you say, "once VTEC cracks, it seems fine." Secondly, what mods are done? Bolt ons won't yield you 300 hp and be an 11 second car.
If I am wrong by all means correct me. I don't want to come off as an ******* or anything, but with the information provided, it just seems like you're expecting too much out of your b16a. Feel free to post more info about noises, smoke, or any other flucuations with the car and we might be able to actually diagnose a problem

^^^ Agreed. With my b16, its pretty much the same story for low rpm driving, but once you pass that magic "vtec" point, its a totally different machine. Even for daily driving, it sometimes struggles here and there, especially in traffic in 2nd gear.
Is the motor bogging when you hit the gas?

Re: PLease Help!!!! b16a reving problem
i'm running on p30 with backyard special chip.... perhaps i have to build my b20 motor after all... been laying in the workshop for couple of months because of my financial problem... is a stock motor and i decided to replace with a bigger piston using euro r 85mm and balance the crank... i'll keep all of you update for my latest project.... its quite frustrating using b16a motor although i have done port and polish for the head and using ek9 cams. Last week on the way home, there is one evo3 mitsubishi tailing me from behind and its fast... even though i step on the gas and hit it till 9,000 rpm theres no way i can leave him behind......is time to do something with it.....by the way, i would like to thanks all of you for writting in and advise.... you are very helpful... glad to be here....
