please help AXLE install problem
hi guys, here's my problem the Axle is not going in!!!! it's the Battery side smaller axle. weird but I can't seem to put it in. also it's a D-series motor. I'm not a complete moron w/ engine swaps + i've had 3 of my friends come on over to check it out, and they can't seem to put it in as well, it goes in BUT not all the way maybe like 2 to 4 mm off, i can't get it to sit flush in there. worse comes to worse i'm gonna have to take out the tranny and figure it from there, but i wanted to ask you guys first.
thanx in advance guys

What I ended up doing the last time. 2x4 and a hammer is all I needed.

Re: please help AXLE install problem (IslandSi)
oic, so just pound it in there, I'm not sure but are the axles different from si to non si model? or abs/ non abs physical difference that is, cuz it almost seems like it can't go in all the way, the metal in the tranny is almost in it's way it seems, but i'll give the 2x4 and a hammer a try

only difference between ABS and non-ABS is the ribbed metal ring that goes around the outside of the axle. Those ribs get picked up by sensors on your hub assembly. When those sensors detect lack of movement the ABS part of your braking system kicks in and unlocks the wheel giving you that pulsating feeling when you're braking hard.

What the expletive? Why are you people having to hit your axle with a hammer to get it to go in? Jesus.. That's a bad idea.. I've changed my axles a good 10 times and have never had to hit one of them with a hammer to get it to go back in.. Just get down there and put some elbo grease into it. Grab the axle with your hand behind the inner boot and push it till you get it to go in properly..
Hitting it with a hammer could damage the splines on either side of the axle..

I usually us the inner joint as a slide hammer and make sure to not pull back to far.
The shaft acts as a hammer and pushes the inner joint into the tranny.
do you have the old axle?
make sure the part that goes in the tranny is the same lenght as the new one.
