please help: 98' civic alarm does not stop
Hello honda-tech
i'm in urgent need of help and i tried searching this site for similar posts, but i couldn't find any. Help would be greatly appreciated.
here is what happened: Although i am new to working on cars, i wanted to attempt to swap my stock steering wheel from my 98' civic DX hatchback with that of an ap2. I disconnected the battery, waited for about 10 minutes, then started on trying to take the steering wheel off. However, i wasn't able to get those torx screws off, so i gave up. a couple of hours later, i needed to use the car, so i connected the srs plug and put the battery cables back on. when i did that, there was a spark and my alarm went off and does not stop even when i push the button on the controller. thus, the car is in the garage with the battery cables off.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?
additional info:
-since i got the car from my brother in 2009, the alarm has not been working.
-i do have an aftermarket radio, but that was installed in 1999. and the alarm was still working then.
sorry for making this so wordy and i hope that someone can help this newbie out. thanks in advance!

Keep trying with the remote. It might take a couple of tries. If not, you might have to take out the brain of the alarm, usually located under driver side dash.

No prob. This happened to me recently. lol. I panicked when the alarm went off when I reconnected the battery, so I just disconnected it. Tried it again and just mashed on the remote and it worked.
