Pinging on VTEC
Okay my B16a pings when i hit VTEC. I can audibly hear it since when VTEC kicks in i can hear it. Now as far as im aware the stock computer dumps a lot of fuel in when VTEC engages. Now why would it ping?
My engine has a ported and polished head. ECU has VAFC but settings has been initialised. Would you need to up the fuel if you have a ported and polished head?
Cheers

On B-series VTEC motors you should run 92 octane, everyone I know runs 92 octane and never pings. How's you timing/ignition wires/spark plugs?

Re: (Dimi)
Im running 96 or 98 octane because we can get that in New Zealand . I think its time to change wires and plugs. But i thought that wouldn't affect it since a weak spark would just lead to unburnt fuel? And I thought the ECU retards timing if its too advanced?

Do Honda ECUs do this? The last time I heard they don't. I was surprised to hear this since my 1997 Jeep does. You can't advance or retard the timimg on that one, self adjusted by the ECU.

Re: (Jimmy)
Many countries measure octane a different way than the US. I think I've read that they measure different strings of hydrocarbons in other countries. I'm sure a Google search would clear things up.

Yeah Im sure the ported and polished head alone wouldnt cause the pinging. Im guessing its the timing. Would advancing timing too much cause low RPM misfire too? Im going to get my car tuned up. I've never set timing on a car.
