Pinging after timing belt install 97 Civic
I just installed a new timing belt on my 97 civic. It now pings under a load. I set the ignition timing to 12 btdc but it still pings. Does it sound like the belt is one tooth off? Does any one have a good description of where the marks are supposed to line up? Thanks for the help!

Re: Pinging after timing belt install 97 Civic (IHateJDM)
Try setting it at 16 BTDC, I think that's stock spec. There are 3 marks when you're setting the timing on the crank pulley. All 3 are really close together, I think the middle on is white, and the outer ones are red. One is for 14 BTDC, then 16 BTDC, and 18 BTDC. Try checking that and adjusting it.

I just rechecked the emission sticker. It says to set the timing at 12 BTDC + or -2 degrees. It is a 1.6L 97 civic. I'm not sure of the family code. The timing light says its dead nuts on at 12 degrees with the blue connector jumped. thanks again!
