Found a guy who's giving it for a bill. What should I look for when checking the tranny? Any info that you guys can share to make sure I dont get ripped off?

Re: (b20vtec17)
Did it really made a difference changing the tranny? I have a puny D15B7 with all the bolt ons but they said one of the best upgrade would be the D16Z6 or D16Y8 tranny. Assuming it grinds, can it be fixed or its considered junk? I need as much info as I can. Thanks.

I will be selling mine soon for that price and it will need the shifter linkage fixed.
You will probably have to repair something on the tranny at that price.

well its kinda hard to really find out whats wrong with a tranny when its not on the car....
you cant just turn the mainshaft and figure out oh the bearings are bad, or the gears are mashing etc. i wish
the only way you truely find out is once its on the engine......

From everyone I heard talk about it....YES! It make a huge difference in 1/4 mile time and a little in 0-60 accel.

And the Y8 tranny fits directly in an EG right? Does it have a code where I can verify its a Y8 tranny?

I just hope what I'm buying tonight wouldn't be junk. But yeah $100 sounds like a good deal. Anybody in LA who can install this for me?

Swapping the tranny is not that difficult. But to be sure try to find someone you know do it and watch/help him out. More you can learn the better.
I was lucky like you, one of my close friends blew his engine and needed money for a b18 so he sold me his z6 tranny for 50 dollars with clutch. A little grind going into 2nd, but I added some GM Syncromesh. All good now
