Picking up a B series Vtec short block for turbo build up... few ???
Im going to purchase either a b16a or b18c bottom end in the next few days. Does it matter which series I go with (obd1 or obd2)? Its going into an eg hatch. I was going to do a complete swap (b16a2 installed for 2750 here in town). But Ive since just changed my mind due to me going to build the motor and boost anyways.
Rather than pay twice on labor I've decided to just slowly peice my motor together now. So before I purchase does it matter which year the motor block is? And why. The block will be sent to either AEBS or Darton for sleeving and other components shortly after delivery to my house.

With the B18C you get different rod ratios, and depending on the bore it will change the Liter. I had my B16 built or I should say it's in the process of being built by Golden Eagle. Give them a call and ask them. There very good at answering your questions, and suggesting things for your setup. I don't think it will matter if you go with the obd 1 or obd 2. I did notice that the obd 2 has a positon crank sensor coming from the block so depending on what type of ecu, and harness your running that might throw a code unless you put a resistor.

if you use the obd2 block with obd1 ecu, you wont even need to plug it in. just use an obd1 distributor.

That's right. That's what I had to do. I was using 99-00 si harness, with a skunk2 harness convering it to OBD I using a P72 ecu. I did not need to connect the position crank sensor, and I just used the OBD II distributor since the plugs match up with the harness.
