Get the Z6.

I've spent awhile with both of them (I had a '95 EX, sold it, now I have a '97 EX).

The Z6 is faster by a long-shot, the Y8 seems to be designed to more "friendly" towards not beating the **** out of it in order to get it to move (it picks up earlier in the torque band than the Z6 and drops off earlier), but in terms of power The Z6 > the Y8 IMO.

So bang for your buck?

I'd have to say the Z6, it's OBD-I, so you don't gotta mess w/ extra crap. It seems to have more power in the upper RPM's than the Y8, and the fuel mileage is about the same for both of them w/ negligible differences.

Y8 has a pented head and is better for boost IMO. But really, it's a pissing contest

Also keep in mind that the y8 is more commonly less mileage, but more $ i believe

lol you'll take part in this thread without being a jerk, but you get all crazy in the "endurance racing" thread?

OP: Iduno. A combination of the parts from the 2 would be the best. Actually....just a Y8 with a Z6 oil pump. I'm not sure if that's a possibility, though.

The Y8 has some cool stuff going for it. Big manifold, aluminum oil pan, higher compression, factory header that works very well.

I think the general consensus around D series guys is that the Z6 is all in all a more solid motor, however.

So maybe a Z6 with a Y8 head, manifold, and header. I believe the Z6 has a nicer geared trans attached to it in Si trim. I could be wrong on the trans thing.

I don't try to be a jerk nor know what endurance thread you're talking about.

It's Honda-Tech, here, at Honda-Tech, people seem to have problems with you and your opinion if you're not all aboard the JDM gravy train (or whatever other gravy train happens to be passing through, such as the K swap gravy train). Unfortunately a lot of stuff that's asked here is opinion, and there's no "real" answer to an opinion question, though everybody thinks their answer is the "right" answer and it just creates a ****-ton of static.

They are d-series. They're cheap. They're all slow until you turbo them.

It's not "bang for the buck" until you actually make some bang.

A $1800 turbo kit making 180whp on a d-series is "bang for the buck"

I'd trade my y8 for a z6 any day of the week. They don't like to make power up top. Mine has a mild cam and pulls hardest between 3200-5900. After that I'm just making noise.
