Default People who have installed their own CV BOOTS !

This is for the INNER boot.

How did you take off the spider bearing that holds the (3) roller bearings? I need to do the inner boot. What tool did you use to take it off? Thanks!

there is a clip holding in on the axle. i always use 2 flathead screwdrivers to get it off but i'm sure there's some tool made especially for it.

Yep, just a little retaining ring thing... Use anything you can find to pull it off... or use retaining ring pliers... or whatever they're called. I swear, I have 3 of them and still don't know what they're called.

I bought all the tools to do this job, started it and realized what a major pain in the *** it would be and just went and swapped the axles at the parts store...

Yea, I see that ring. So if I pop off that ring then the spider bearing should just come off? I hope so...

yep. you might have to tap it with a small hammer... but it'll come off without too much effort. there is another ring clip on the other side, but you can leave that one on. the boot will slide over it.

remanufactured axles are $70 at Napa. You get 2 new boots and all new bearings, inner and outer, and it's 1/4 of the work just to replace the whole thing. That would be my suggestion.
