You cant hear it, but it does kick in. It will never be as noticeable as a GSR/Si/R. Its VTEC-E, not really designed for performance. I usually noticed a slight pull in 5th when I would gradually accelerate.

Not good, it would run very rich and vtec would engage much higher so you would have even less power....I know it doesn't seem possible . But i would think that if you did run a p28, once vtec would engage you would feel more of a kick b/c it's engaging so much higher and running so restrictive, so the more flow would give off more of a "kick" but still no more power
But I have a bone stock vx,D15z1, with only exhaust (full 2.5" cat back) and I CAN most defiantly hear it when vtec-e engages.
What vtec-e does is you only run on 12 valves (8 intake 4 exhaust) until 3000ish rpm. At that point the remaining 4 exhaust valves open. More exhaust gases will flow, thus more sound.
I guess all of you who say you cannot hear it have never drove in one and are only assuming because of the normal statements about the engine

Seriously. But mine broke down so B16 is on its way.
But when i had the vx, i wasnt sure if the vtec-e kicked in at 3400 or at 5000, i would hear a difference in like 7 areas. i think my head was just messing with me. o well

this guy knows whats he's talking about. if anything it would be easier to hear it on a VX since the change from a 12 valve to a 16 valve is more drimatic (sp?) than just higher valve lift like in the other vtec engines. I too own a VX and it's quite easy to notice vtec. and really easy to notice going up hill in second.
one time i was low on oil and in a sharp right hand turn the vtec silinoid wasn't getting enough oil so I was revving up past the normal vtec change over mark in the turn with no vtec and then my car strightend out and the oil could reatch the silinoid vtec kicked in at around 5000rpms, it's VERY noticable then. but I don't recomend letting your car go low on oil unless you have a back up engine.
