Default peice under the intake manifold

i have a b18c and there is this little black box i guess u could say that has vaccum lines coming from it and its mounted under the intake manfiold. one of the lines goes to a cicular peice mounted on the side of the intake manfiold that has what almost looks like a throttle on it and the vaccum line comes off a nipple on the top. what is this and what is it for? do i need it? if not what is involved in taking it out? im in the process of shaving my engine bay and eliminating antyhign i don't need so please help

kinda sounds like what would be your secondary butterfly opening mechanism. it opens different runners in your intake manifold at a certain RPM. are there any electrical wires running to it?

nah sounds like your stock pcv box, you need it unless you plan on altering your pcv setup.

oh, i got threw off when he said "one of the lines goes to a cicular peice mounted on the side of the intake manfiold that has what almost looks like a throttle on it" the thing with a throttle was what i was talking about. if you are talking about the black box, then yes, it is for the PCV system. there are ways to change the system, but not get rid of it.
