Passing Smog in Ca. with B18C

I have a 95' Del Sol and soon i will be dropping in a B18C. I've heard from many people with that swap have had emissions problems. So would the B18C1 pass emissions easier since it is USDM, or if i stuck with the B18C what would i have to do to it to make it pass.

Re: Passing Smog in Ca. with B18C (B18C1 Del Sol soon)

you need to get your car BAR certified in either case to get a legal smog check.

Pretty much all you'll need is a US GSR ECU to get it BAR'ed. Also make sure all the smogg equipment matches that of a B18C1.

IMO GSR's are the easiest swap to BAR. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

how is it easier than swapping in a b16? the easiest to BAR motors are USDM motors. the next easiest would be JDM motors of the same OBD. All you really would need to do is hook up the evap purge solenoid and run an USDM ecu.

I was referring to the ease of BAR'ing JDM engines. A JDM GSR is the easiest of the JDM engines to BAR in this area, but then again we have psycho 90-year-old reffs here.https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif

no motor is harder then any other motor to get BAR'D they are all held to the same standers.

I believe you meant to say standards https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

btw I agree with your statement. you will go through the same shit regardless if you have a usdm b16 or jdm b18c. it all depends on the attitude of the smog ref.

Very true.

The problem with our local reff is that he knows pretty much nothing about Hondas. He told my friend with a B16 CRX to put B18C1 manifolds on the B16 and change the wiring completely. Then when we tried to ask more technical questions he said, "look in the book." We asked what book he was talking about and where we could find it. He mentioned something about looking on the Internet and that he had to go, then shooed us off.

The one swap he is most accustomed to and seems to pass with ease is a B18C into a 92-95 Civic. I guess it confuses him the least amount. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emdgust.gif

So, around here any ways, that is the easiest swap to reff. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif
