Default Partially stripped hatch support hole?(pic)

Not sure what it's called, but the hole that you screw the hatch support bars into. The right one is a bit stripped on the passenger side, so I have the support shock just kinda hanging from my window. The threads don't look totally bad, I just can't get the shock to screw into it at all.

I was wondering what the best way to fix this is. I'm getting sick of looking at the shock just hanging there when I open my hatch, lol.

try to clean it up a litle bit, so that you can see in how bad of a condition the threads are in. then try to put some of that silicone wrap stuff they put on the threads of sprinkler systems (wow, nice comparison lmao). you know what im talking about? um...teflon tape...thats it...and try to screw it in then. if that doesnt work, try to use some jb weld. or go to a machine shop near you or a construction site and have them tack weld it on.

sorry if these ideas are garbage, but thats what i would do...and HAVE done lmao.

Quickest and easiest but definitely not the right way to keep it in there would be to glue/epoxy it, JB weld etc..

Um, tape isn't going to do anything but waste time.

Use a metric tap of the correct size to clean up the threads. If they're too damaged to repair, a Time-sert is the next best option - however, drilling out the welded nut to fit the Time-sert may cause it to break free from the body. In that case, you're going to have to have a new nut welded in. Not difficult, just a hassle.

why would tape be a waste of time? my inake manifold brake booster fitting was stripped cuz whoever did the swap simply jamme dit in there. so i went out, got a new fitting put some teflon on it and the b1tch holds on like its chained down.

Because I'm not 18 and I've been doing this sort of thing for a living for years.

lmao niice but yeah get the right size metric tap (go to your nearest ACE)and hope that its cleans it up well enough that u can screw in the shock thingy

so im just curious...because im 18, i drive a swapped civic, and im trying to help the guy out by stating what i would do...by the looks of it it loks like the threads are screwed. and if hes saying that the lift shock doesnt screw back in, well, jb weld will do for now. how would a tap do anythign, if the hole is alreadystripped there would be nothng to rethread. and if u try to rethread, then it would completly strip eveythign leaving behind an unusable hole.

im not trying to b1tch, im just trying to understand why it wouldnt work.

The first half of the threads are pretty rough/stripped, but there's still about half the threads intact. I'm hoping that I can hit it with a tap and clear it up enough to keep it usable.

awsome...well obviuosly the tap would be best. i gave you my quarantine solutions thinking that the threads were completely stripped. and i have no idea what tap size. maybe m1.25x12.5? i really dont know lol. hope this thrad helped somewhat

If you plan to work on cars, get a tap and die set. Maybe you only need one now, but just get the whole set so you have them to choose out of next time and a way to organize them all.
To choose one, there's a tool with a bunch of toothed pieces of metal and different pitches. They'll range from rough thread pitches with few teeth per inch to fine threads with many teeth. They're marked so just use that and select the tap or die diameter by comparing them.

becuase the tape is the only thing holding the bolt there. threads just squeeze the tape until it is "tight"

id say take the visible birs out he has there, then try it, if it does'nt gt a new bolt chase the threads with a tap. if it does'nt work.

grind out the 2 spot welds, and get yourself a mig welder and some MS wire. remember 45 degree angle for a fillet weld like that.
