painting lip flat black
i did a search everything was on color matching it.
I like the flat black lip look...i already have a lip that is color matched and want to try a flat black lip to have it stand out a little more
So what type of prep do i have to do? Would i need to primer?
I have flexible bumper and trim by Plasti-kote(flat black).....and on the directions it says just to sand it down and finish with 600grit...and then apply the flat black flexible bumper trim and then add primer and then the paint and then the clear coat
So would i not do the steps after applying the flat black paint?

Re: (ekhybrd)
take the lip off the car and since its allready been painted all you have to do for the new paint to stick is wash the part off with warm soapy water and when wet use a red scuff pad to wet scuff the whole part..make sure you covered every inch of the part going to be painted (there should be no un scuffed shiney parts left..then rinse the whole part with warm water and then dry..it will look dull and whitish in color...then use a fresh tack rag if you want before you spray..id recommend a krylon exterior semi gloss..its not glossy but its not flat..it matches oem black plastic parts like mirrors and moldings..it will match much better

A lip I painted recently.... looks flat in person (same as trim black or the black housing of the Spoon replica mirrors) but in the pictures it looks glossy for whatever reason. I wrote in there to use TRIM paint and not bumper paint. The trim paint gives the flat look much cleaner while the bumper paint made it too runny looking

Sorry to jack but I have a fresh, unpainted lip from JDMshit. I want to do black paint, too =D. Do I have to be 18 to buy the spray paint? I've heard that I do.
Also, should I clearcoat on top, or is it fine with just the black?

some places say you have to be 18 to buy paint and some dont...if you use interior/exterior krylon semi gloss paint you do not have to clear coat it..and 1 can should be enough to do about 2 lips
