I am going to be repainting my car in summer and thinking about painting the valve cover the same color. I have black wrinkle paint but everyone has that now. Has anyone tried this before and got good results?

I don't know if kragen got it but the way I did mine was with spray paint from home depot, its called textured. Buy it in black then spray what ever color you want over it since color range with the textured stuff isn't large.

I found that autozone can order the red wrinkle paint. Also make sure that you use a white primer not a grey. it makes the red brighter.

I have ordered it at autozone but that was the red and black. I use to get the blue and yellow at an autobody supply store. Sadly you have to have a painters license to purchase for this store but find one in your area and just ask if you have to have a painters license to purchase and if not there you go. I will say it is spendy like $8.00 a can.

Would a wire wheel work for scuffing rather than sandpaper? Just seems to me like that would work just as well if not better.

One thing that you might keep in mind, the cover is cast aluminum and I found on my aluminum alloy wheels that the brass wire wheel really polished it up nice and shiny.

The brass wheel might do the same on the valve cover doing the opposite of what you are out to do.

Steel wire wheel would probably work well.

So then would a brass wheel work the same on my stock rims? I have the alloy premium wheels.

You could test it on the inside and see if it reacts the same as it did for me on my rims.

That way if it doesn't it's not in a visible area. Will require pulling your wheel off to test but if it works, could do a nice polish job.
