P72 GSR CEL HELP!!!!
Hey guys,
yet another question. My CEL is flashing a code 1 which is the o2 sensor. I am running a P72 ECU with my B18C1 from a 95 teggy. The ECU code ends in A01 so i am assuming it's a OBD1. Why is the CEL light on? I checked the o2 sensor and it is good. I was told that running a p28 would get rid of the CEL. The other thing is don't OBD1 vehicles only have 1 o2 sensor. mine does but i was also told it is supposed to have 2 of them. I am completly lost. HELP!!!!

on obd 1 Gezzers i beleive there is only one o2 sensor but when you go to the 96 up Gezzers you have to have 2 unless you run the chipped p28 etc..etc...

The number of O2's has nothing to do with the ECU tossing the code. I would be willing to bet your "known good" O2 sensor ISN'T good.

Re: P72 GSR CEL HELP!!!! (Hybrid93Eg)
I swapped it with my buddies good o2 sensor and still threw a light. my o2 sensor in his GSR didn't throw one either. BTW when i swapped o2 sensors do i need to reset the ecu to clear the code?? If so how?? I just unplugged the the battery for three minutes and thought that should clear the ecu. If it doesn't how do you or do you have to when you change 02 sensors???

Alright, so you put in a known good O2 and still had the code. Pulling the battery for 3 mins is overkill. 20 seconds and it will remove the code. Or better yet, just pull the "back up" fuse and wait 20 seconds. Thats all that is needed.
Now, have you checked for bad wiring? I would suspect at this point you have a wiring issue. Most likley a broken wire. Check all the connections with a multimeter. Trace them from the O2 connector back to the ECU. Also make sure all the pins are correctly seated in the connector as well. Check for corrosion on the terminals also. Electrical contact cleaner will clean up the connector quite well. I would then put some dielectric grease on the female end to prevent future issues.
