Default P72 on B16...need some info on driving the car.

hey guys, i have a 99 b16A2 on a 96 EK..my last resort was to turn to the 98 gsr ecu for work purposes (i had to get up and running asap). when i turn on the car it runs fine for the first 30 sec. until i get a CEL, and lags like none other....i was told this was because of the knock sensor?...i have a 99 P2T ecu laying around there but finding a obd2a to obd2b jumper harness is crazy to find and i know they go for alot of dough...

would it be ok to drive the car until i can get some money to chip the P72?

Did you actually check the code, or just going by what someone "told" you. I had a p72 on my swap for a while until I figured out the reason I was throwing codes and told the company that sold me the swap to give me a p30. I noticed a difference in driveability, but mostly only because of the vtec engagement points for each ecu. Other than that, my car ran well.

Your's may be a different story since my motor is OBD1, but Idk. But if you didn't actually check the code(s), I would do so because what you are explaining is nothing like what I experienced when I had my p72.

is there anyone in socal that can chip the ecu?...i would rather stick with the obd2 P72 for now. for money reasons. would i have to give them the P2T ecu so they can get the base maps?...or can they chip it just like that?....i never really went to someone to chip an ecu before....what is the going rate to chip an ecu these days?

yes. im assuming its the knock sensor, because it pulls healthly the first couple of seconds after i turn the car on.

What do you mean? You say yes you checked it, but then say you are assuming. I'm getting dizzy

check it. knock cel shouldnt come on immediatly. if im not mistaken it only comes on after the fan has cycled once or vtec has engaged. so that might not be your problem.

Oh, you said yes and I assumed it was to my original question as to whether or not you checked it. In any event, like I said, I was throwing I think something like 4 codes (ks being one) when I had my p72 and my car ran fine. Checking your codes is really easy.

when the motor is cold it takes awhile for it to come on. it goes on every single time i turn the car on, like i said, it runs fine until 30-40 seconds and i here a little click in the ecu and the cel goes on....

Let us know. You'll probably end up throwing more than one.
