Default p30 jdm ecu

i was running my b16a3 with a p72 ecu and ran horrible, the vtec points were different and made the car bog down and the cel would take a little while to turn on.now i have a jdm p30 ecu,as far as i know the ecu is virgin, the car has almost like a 2-step at around 1.5k wich is annoying.now the cel turns on as soon as the car is on.any idea whats wrong with the ecu?

run the knock sensor, and it'll run 10 times better. i had this same problem with my p30 ecu, i'd plug it in, and go down the highway, the CEL would turn on and flash random codes, i fixed the knock sensor, and now it runs fine

Backside of the block, near the oil filter, single wire (blue IIRC).
