Default Is a P28 ecu compatible with a vx swap

Swapped a vx engine / tranny into my 92 cx and am wondering if running a P28 ecu will do anything harmful?

If I am not mistaken, the VX is a D15Z1 which is 5wire oxygen sensor. P28 runs off 4wire....so you have to convert

not all of the VX's used 5 wires, so it COULD work, depending on this..

The vx uses a wideband o2 sensor that is why it is a 5 wire. In fact i think my vx had a 7 wire sensor. You can rewire it to make it work, i am pretty sure you will have issues if you just connect it and go.

No, it did NOT use a 7 wire. I will put money on that.

They don't ALL use the 5 wire O2's. I have personally seen ones, stock, with 4 wires.

If I remember correctly, CA had a 4-wire for VX.

You are crazy. A wideband 02 it 2 02 sensors in one. It has a non-heater (1-wire) and a heated (4-wire) so it is a 5 wire.

I've heard of a P28 being used on a VX motor (user Built B16A used a chipped P28 with uberdata on his turbo VX).

BUT I would never use a stock P28 on a VX because:

1. P28 is designed for 240cc injectors, VX has 180cc...you risk running lean and blowing the motor up
2. The VX motor has a VERY LOW VTEC engagement point (when it switches over to 4 valve mode) and you'd have no power to 5,000 if you ran a P28.
3. The VX has an EGR valve to recirculate exhaust gas, i'm not sure if its operated by the ECU or not.
4. P28 is 4 wire, most VX's are 5 wire 02 and it wouldn't work anyway

Bottom line, get the right ECU for the motor (P07).

He is talking about the engine harness side. Both the VX 5wire and my Y5 5wire actually have 7wires on the harness side but 5 on the sensor side

I know what they have. I use a VX wideband to tune with. They might have 7 SPOTS for wires, but they do NOT have seven wires on either the sensor or the harness side.

It is controlled by the ECU.

If the poster wants to pass smog, he will get the p07

I just happen to have one here for sale if anyone wants it. Same board as a P28 and yes, its chipped. You can easily cut the jumper and get it to run like "stock" if need be. Or I can do a custom VX program..whatever floats your boat.
