Default P28 ecu ?

Does a P28 OBDI ecu have a knock sensor? I have had people tell me yes and no. I thought it would because I thought in order for VTEC to work it has to have a oil pressure, temp, and knock sensor reading. I just need someone to verify. I am converting from a P2P OBD2.5 to the P28 what other important sensors might I be getting rid of? How different are the fuel and timing maps? I am doing the conversion to rid myself of the secondary o2 sensor and to get a Hondata.

No knock sensor. I did hear of the new version of the apexi vtec controller having a knock sensor in it. Not sure if it is out yet.
You will be losing the crank sensor and maybe some others.
As long as you have the proper jumper then you should be okay.
It really depends on which chip you use. If you are going hondata then you shouldnt need to worry about the fuel maps and so on.
Good luck with the tuning.

Thanks, I'm a little worried about the fuel maps because I already have the Hondata S200, but it probably won't be in and tuned until the end of summer when my block is finished.

I don't see how any smog station could tell what type of ECU you were running...As long as you retain your original smog equipment, there should'nt be a problem.

And I don't think any of us SOHC guys have much to worry about when it comes to smog issues.

Some smog stations in Cali do check. They acutally plug this machine into your diagnostic port and it reads if there are any trouble codes, and it can tell whether or not the ecu is obd2 or not. One smog station did it for my dads 99 toyota tacoma. If you have to smog, just swap the stock ecu back in.

I do.
Luckily they don't do smog testing in Tampa anymore.
