p28 with d15z1?

well have a 92 civic hatch vx. its a lowly 1.5 vtec-e. vtech probably kicks in at around 5200, but red lines at 6000. so that's a whole 800 rpm of vtec. was wondering if i would be able to run a p28 and take it to 7200. anyone know much about this motor.

thanks

Re: p28 with d15z1? (whal3_p3nis)

Why do you want to take your stock motor 1200 rpm more then it has to. Thats just asking for trouble.

Now if the motor is somewhat built then thats another question.

But for stock theres no reason to do that.

NO, vtec-e kicks in around 3000 and you make your max hp (92) at 5500 and max torque (97 ft/lbs) at 4500 (so there is NO reason to rev that hight with a stock z1, which is basically how every z1 is internally) . So why in the world would you want to rev to 7200? plus that redline is there for a reason, not just to stop you. You're only lowering engine life by reving that high. Also a p28 will make your lean burning z1 run very rich and vtec will kick in MUCH later, as far as making power and redline standards go, so can you say less power?

Re: p28 with d15z1? (whal3_p3nis)

what about mini me swaps. dont people run a p28 with a dx block and vtec head. heard of people using vx head too. what are the differences in the dx vs vx block. asking cuz looking to run ls rods, and going turbo using 14b off an eclipse and eclipse 450cc injectors with afc hack.

Re: p28 with d15z1? (whal3_p3nis)

thanks for everyone's input. just looking at options. just wondering cuz friend said he has heard of people running the vx motor for a sohc homemade turbo setup. i was thinking of going at least d16z6 till he told me that. but haven't found anyone running a vx sohc turbo setup.

the rods in a z1 are 3mm longer and the piston's pins sit 3mm higher, and the pistons are very very domed. With a z6 head on a z1 block your cr will be so low you will make so much less power. I've never heard of people using a z1 head on a non vtec block, that is so stupid. It is not logical in the least. LS rods will only work on a D16 block, the rod bearings are smaller in a D15. You'll need to get forged internals (made for a D15 (both pistons and rods)) if you want to run on high boost at all on a z1.

Re: p28 with d15z1? (CivicVX94)

do you know who make internals for a z1. not looking to boost high. 10 lbs at the most. more like 7lbs.

Re: p28 with d15z1? (CivicVX94)

read this, it will tell you most of what you need to know. The D15B and D15z1 internals are mostly the same, except pistons. So this all will apply. Read the whole thing, all your questions should get answered. I don't feel like repeating stuff I already said

no one does, so you'll need both rods and pistons for a D15, you can't have one without the other (like forged rods and stock pistons or visa versa). I would not run that on a stock z1, the rods aren't exactly the beefiest in the world.

a p28 should get that job done. the only differences between an automatic and manual z6 head is that the camshaft is slightly less aggressive on the auto.

check this out for general info on mini-me's

B16a3 (i think it's 3) came stock in del sol vtec models
they only dohc D's are the D16a1/3/8/9 which came in 86 thru 89 tegs. and of course the dohc zc which came in crx's, integra's and i think civic si's in JDM land. they were produced from 85-93....just a little fyi https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif
*edit* i want a dohc D badly, that's why I know this https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif
