p28 on a d15b?
I have a stock p28 on my d15b eg. The car seems to give me bad milage, it also gives out black smoke that semi steins my bumper and the whole rear end. What should I do? should I get a chipped a p28?

The D15B your running, is it the vtec version? if it is you shouldn't be having any trouble, i'm running a JDM OBD1 D15B Vtec ona virgin P28 and it runs fine, you just need to run a 4 wire O2 sensor and add the purge solinoid to the intake. If however your running a non vtec engine your gonna run rich, if thats the case get a P06 from a DX/LX.

A little black smoke would be from running rich even if you have the VTEC D15B. The correct ECU would be a P08, but since those are harder to come by than a 5 speed P28 and ungodly expensive, get your P28 chipped to run P08 maps. I just asked this question, and was directed to buy a chip from http://www.phearable.net

P08 is definately the correct ECU, but theres lots of guys running D15B vtec's with stock P28s and not haveing any trouble, thats not to say it wouldn't be a good idea to chip a P28 with P08 maps, i'm just saying i've never known a stock P28 to cause a problem with this swap. Theres only .1L difference in displacement, other than that the engines are very similar, supposedly a slightly more agressive cam in the D15B, and it has different pistons. I can say this, i run a stock P28 on a D15B vtec and it doesn't run rich, never smokes at all, doesn't get soot on the back of my car and gets excellent mileage.

Not right off the top of my head no, try finding someone who's swapping something into a VX and see if they'll sell you their old ECU cheap, theres really a pretty ridiculous price variation on honda parts. I bought my virgin P28 for $40, actually someone else bought it for me and then i got it from them, but i guess it was in an EX coupe at a junkyard, kinda surprising really, i figured a junkyard would want a lot more than that. Now other people have paid well over $100 for P28s so it really just depends on who has it and how much they want.

the po7 will fit right in, check your o2 sensor, if its oily then get a new one. An oily o2 sensor can make you run rich. pictures of the motor will help
