P0706 code, help with honda part numbers!

Hello all, I am finally getting around to doing some work on the '98 civic ex. I have reset the ECU and checked several scanners and they all report P0706 and some report P0705 and P0706. I have looked for shorts in the wires and my PRND light works great, transmissions shifts okay and as it should. I am ready to replace the transmission range sensor in an attempt to get rid of the codes.

The problem is no dealer seems to know of a part called the "transmission range sensor" I have also found a sensor that is under the shift box and I have seen some sensors on the drivers side of the transmission that people are calling a range sensor.

So can anyone please help me out with some part numbers or at least the correct terminology for this part. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I assume you made a typo when writing the code in your post because there are no P0705 and P0706 transmission codes for a stock 98 Civic EX.

You probably need to be testing the A/T gear position switch.

Re: P0706 code, help with honda part numbers!

No typo, 3 different code readers showed P0705 and P0706 as well as a generic TCM code P0740 although two of the readers were bosch brand and another from the local parts house. I have found the part number to the "range sensor" aka Trans axel gear position switch(35700-S04-A01). I am assuming your refering to this one under the shifter? The one in this car is corroded pretty badly, I will probably order another one and test the pins, hopefully this will clear the TCM codes. Thanks for your input! Any idea why these codes would show when they're (as you said) not applicable codes to my year make and model?
