I spliced my 4 wire oxygen sensor to extend it on a DC header. I used 18 gauge and used posilocks with no heat resistant wrapping of any kind. I also routed it trailing the header down to the downpipe bung. Do you think the sensor will be okay?

That might be a problem. I've never extended on 02 sensor but headers get awfully hot

the car ran fine for about 2 weeks. And i did ALOT of driving and no CEL. But now I get CEL, i reseted it and it went away. I drove a bit and now its back. ****..I havent pulled the codes yet...do you think the sensor died?

mmm i dont think the heat will kill the sensor itself man.

those things are made to sit on headers.. they're gonna get ******* hot no matter what.

does your wiring still look ok?
maybe where you connected it something melted or something?

and did you check the code? sure its the o2?

my junk is spliced and wrapped in electrical tape and a plastic sleeve thing and its fine. just make sure the wires arent touching the header and it'll be alright.

Even if i wrap them, if i routed them the same way they would be touching the downpipe. Is there an alternate route?

Alright so i pulled the code and it is code 41. Primary oxygen sensor heater. Is that the same one that im talking about?

zip tie the wires out of the way, theres something there that'll hold the wires off the manifold.

maybe one of your wire connections came undone.

honda uses alot of zipties in the engine bay(theirs are spiffy with clips to lockem in place) you should too!

if you have to, add more length to the wire,
that'll give you more slack to holdem out of the way.

hahah seriously...i had them ziptied to begin with when it gets down to the y pipe, it still touches...and giving them more slack came to mind but i have yet to do it. Thank you guys for helping out.

Your o2 sensor has not gone bad, its just not getting the right voltage which is why your throwing a cell for primary o2 sensor. you need to sauder your wires together so that you have a good strong connection.

i can't tell by the looks of the connections. I used posi locks, which worked for a whole month. Now it threw a CEL. I don't know. The last time i reset it was okie for a short period then it came back. I'm just gonna tkae out the O2 redo the connections a little cleaner and see what happens

Yeah i had the same problem before when i got a o2 sensor from a freind after i destroyed mine. I would reset the ecu then after a wille it would come back on again. I could reset it over and over again it would still throw a cell after a wille of driving. So i finnally took it out and saudered the wires together and it fixed the problem.

Thats weird, i just used butt connectors, and its been good for like a year now.

So soldering huh? Maybe I'll give it a try when all else fails. It's just easier to extend....truncate and stuff using the posilocks. O yeah...How did u guys route the wire to the y pipe. Ijust did mine from the front. It touches the header some and I dont think there is a way to avoid it.

where is your o2 bung located? if its the one on top, u can just route the wire in the direction of your intake, and drop it below the intake mani..thats if your bung is on top, not to sure bout the bottom bung. Just my 2 cents

i made an extention harness out of an old o2 sensor and an old harness. i soldered 14awg wires in, and wrapped them in electrical tape. i taped the extention harness to the oem harness, following it back wards to the fire wall, then let it drop down behind the intake mani. no probs for 2 years

Thanks dude...ill try to reroute it since it doesnt seem safe going down in the front. I used 18 gauge wire before and it worked until the current CEL. So i think 18 gauge is okay.

yeah just run the extionsion down undet the IM you will have no problems there.
