oxygen sensor help???
So the problem is this...I have a 98 civic dx, and when my brother owned it he put DC Sports headers on it. Ever since then my CEL's been on. I really don't care about the light, but what if anything is having a screwed up oxygen sensor gonna damage? I love my little car and want her to feel better. Any comments?

The 96-00 D16y7 engine had the catalytic converter built into the header.
When the DC unit was put on, the cat vanished, probably along with the car's 2ndary o2 sensor....which is causing your cel (check it and Im sure this is the code - if its the primary o2 switch them immediately!)
The 2ndary o2 doesnt really do anything as far as fuel or how the car runs, so its nothing to really worry about.
You can have the exhaust B-pipe cut, to include a cat, with 2ndary o2...you should do this...
Like I said, if you have a cel for the primary o2, this is a giant problem that needs to be rectified immediately.

Re: oxygen sensor help??? (pdiggitydogg)
Thanks for the info...If it's the primary O2 what could it have done to my car? I don't have much time or money to do anything to it right now but if there's something screwed up thats a different story. My brother told me last pm that he never fixed the problem causing the CEL because it was an O2 sensor and it costs A LOT.

02 sensors arent cheap, but not having them causes a problem.without the o2 sensors, your engine runs on an open loop, meaning it doesnt adjust the A-F ratio. it runs really rich, which causes excess carbon buildup and lower mpg . replace the 02 sensor.its worth it.
