Default Oxygen sensor bad?

how often should you replace your O2 sensor? How do you know it's going bad?

do you have a CEL, if not its probably fine you shoudlnt have to do any routine maintance with O2 sensors

just because theres no cel doesn't mean its fine, oxygen sensor start to slow down after a lot of mileage and don't send signals as fast as they should.

they should send signals at the same rate of speed no matter what, it doesnt sniff some exhaust and say wait ill sniff it twice it smelt funny, signal time should always be the same other wise youll throw code 1 CEL, the only way signal is delay/weakend is it the wires are extended signal drops and he didnt mention any problems, if he had one he'd of mention'd

an oxygen sensor rate can be slow and it will give you problems without giving you a "check engine light" for the older vehicles. newer vehicles will throw a code for that though. i've put a o2 sensor on a scope and have seen slow o2s before. I do smogs in california all day long. its my job.

it actually sniffs oxygen not exhaust, thats why its called a oxygen sensor.A code one would show when theres no signal. And it actually does signal several times a second , their called cross counts

also known as a "lazy" o2... seen it many times... they dont respond as quickly as they should

Hm... looked like it needed a new one...replaced the old unit with a new Bosch. It's obviously a different style but it plugs up just fine






Anyone know where the plug end mounts to? Mine is just sitting on the tranny. Where does it hook up to?

Should hook up to obviously the other side of the plug but there should be a metal hanger/clip on the front tranny to block bolt, if it is not there then zip tie it out of the way.

It mounts to the same place your backup light switch mounts to.. it's a hanger off of the tranny

and yes, that new sensor you got is just fine... white wires are heater circuit, black is signal and grey is ground for that new one... on old one white is signal, green is ground and white ones are heater circuit

make sure they're both 4 wires and you're good to go

I was referring to the syle of the sensor itself. The new one looks nothing like the old one.

Dont think it is the right O2 sensor. Where did you get it. Hope not autozone.

I have a civic '96 ex manual with 70K when I was experiencing the problem. I had a bogging down problem only on first gear, expecially when the car was cool. I tested the O2 sensor connected to the exhaust with a multimeter. It tested good. However, I finally got tired of the problem and took it to a well respected mechanic in Simi Valley, California. Well, guess what. It was the O2 sensor, both of them. He showed me on a graphical type monitor how a good O2 sensor should behave. Mine was not responding the way it should. Oh, I had no Check engine light.

After only replacing the O2 sensor connected to the exhaust manifold, my bogging down was solved. He again showed me the monitor, now I was getting the results he said I should be getting. He picked up the part at Napa. I paid $165 for just the part. The part looked exactly the same as the original. However, after much research, o2sensor.com had the best prices. My next step, replace the secondary O2 sensor.

I agree from experience, the CEL does not have to go on for O2 sensor to be bad. After countless hours reading, an O2 sensor should, in my opinion, be changed anywhere from 60K to 80K at the longest.

Just my experience.

$165 for an o2 sensor... priceless to say the least

remind me of a guy i talked to the other who paid $500 to have his ecu chipped...

universal o2 sensor is just fine unless it's a wideband as is the case with certain cars

I went to the Bosch website and pulled up the part number for the car--94 DX. part # 15710 which is the same I got right now.

But since I have a mini me and I'm running a P28, would I need a O2 sensor for a z6 instead of a b7 or are tehy both the same?

both use a 4-wire o2 sensor... so yes, they're the same.. i don't know if they use the same exact o2 sensor in terms of design but they're interchangable

design doesn't matter.. what matters is the signal that the o2 sensor sends the ecu

So if they're the same, how come I'm seeing different part numbers and price for the z6 and b7?

Bosch:
z6: part# 13249 $148.99
b7: part# 15710 $67.99

Oxygensensors.com lists the two (Walker brand) as the same though:

I'm starting to see the difference between the z6 and b7 now that I have visuals from the Honda Parts Catalog.

Both oxygen sensors are positioned differently on the exhaust manifold due to the design differences and you can see the difference in length of the wires. The thing is, I can't make out why there's such a big price gap between the two. The designs are slightly different between the two and so is the length of the wires from what I can make out. If all an oxygen sensor does is just reads the voltage, why change the sensor's design?

those are not the same... one seems to have 2 wires and the other 4 wires... i have a b7 and it's got a 4 wire sensor so it's the same as the z6... i have no idea what bosch says

btw, you match the o2 sensor to the ECU and not the motor

They both are 4 wires. YOu just can't see them real well. Stop flip flopping man.

if they're both 4 wires they are interchangable.. i only saw 2 wires for the b7 and that's why i said what i said

anyywa, stop wasting brain cells and use what you have.. it will work just fine
