overheating troubles...
it's a bit of a long story but hopefully some of you guys will read this and have some insight
- car was overheating a bit though it was the radiator being insufficient, it probably was considering it was the stock EX single core
- replaced the radiator with a Fluidyne and car continued to overheat and the water was not being drawn back in from the reservoir, determined that the head gasket had also gone bad
- installed a new head gasket with ARP studs, compression tested all clear, water returns to system now from the reservoir
- car still overheats at slower speeds after the car has been running for a while
- in all the cases i've been very careful about bleeding out the system with a funnel and waiting for the thermostat to open with the heater on
- the cooling system was flushed after the head gasket was installed
- the fan still works and turns on at about 210 with the factory thermoswitch, and does it's job of preventing the water from continuing to heat up
I have considered just wiring the fan to stay on all the time, but it seems that the radiator alone should be able to do the job considering the stock one managed to keep a stable 180 degrees for years.
any ideas of what else might be the problem?
thanks

Re: overheating troubles... (TeknoJunki)
Same thing happened to my old 99 Si, it would be fine when I was driving, but sitting at lights or being parked in a parking lot the heat would slowly start to rise. I never really figured out what was going on with it, the car was sold shortly after the incident started happening.
Anyways a bump for you becuase I know how frusterating it is.

Dunno if this is a dumb question, but you said you replaced the head gasket and I was wondering if you checked the head for any warpage or cracks. Maybe something to look at. I think I have also heard of bad timing causing overheating problems. Good luck.
