overheating..tried evrything :O
Ok.. bear with ne
95 dx automatic
my sistr bought the car for $450. The guy said it overheats on the highway and fan is always running n waterpump has been replaced.
so replaced spark plugs (one was damaged)
Oil was clean when changed.
coolant is green no sign of oil.
no leaks anywhere.
no CELs
aftr i replaced the hedgasket it still ovrheated but seemed to hav more power.
bottom radiator hose never got hot.
I even removed the thermostsat n the bottom hose finaly got hot...but stilll ovrheats when driving.
Fan is always on (hardwired)
At idle or parked temp drops back down? ???????????
ANYONE EVER HEAR OF A NON OEM WATERPUMP NOT SPINNING INSIDE AT HIGHER RPMS???
Frign stumped

I've heard that but I was having the exact same problem and ended up being the radiator , replaced and no problems since
One way I would check to see if the water pump is working is open the radiator cap start the car and see if you can see any type of flow .

Try checking the fan direction if it is reversed it will overheat at speed. It creates a high pressure situation between the fins of the radiator and does not allow air to flow through. It clogs it in other words. I have seen a hard wired fan do this before.

I was there while the head gasket was replaced.
The top hose was very hot, hotter than the hose on my GSR swapped Civic.
The head gasket had been changed before, it was a Fel Pro gasket, not the MLS but the graphite impregnated kind with a formed metal thing for the center.
Stock head bolts were reused, torqued to 25, 35 and then 60lbs in a circular pattern from the inside going out.
All old gasket material was scraped off and cleaned with solvent.
The water pump was making noise, could it be bad and still spin but not pump water?
It sounded like the motor had been overheated pretty bad, up into the red.
maybe should try testing the coolant for combustion gases.
$25 rental plus $8 for test fluid at Autozone.

Also, is there a normal temperature for the head to be at, at operating temperature? I could measure mine after a drive I guess, even though it's a different motor and has a dual core rad. I have a have a non-contact thermometer you can borrow if you want that other water pump still.

The guy you bought it from said he replaced the water pump? how long ago? If it is not OEM there might be a problem with it.
Did it run hot and overheat before the headgasket gave out? maybe the head is warped?

Thanx tim :D
Hedgasket showed no signs of failure
the waterpump is non oem whines n seems to make alot of noise. No leak from it.
Iv been searching n found a few that say the non oem pumps can fail to spin well enough to keep the stuff cool.

Awesome.
I know coolant becomes acidic over time and that eats the water pump seals. Would a litmus test accurately tell if the coolant is ok, or not?
It's starting to get chilly, so it will be good to check the concentration. It may be best to check all the heater hoses and get fresh coolant and distilled water. I've got some extra heater hose, gotta check how long though.
