overheating problems... any suggestions?
Here's the situation... I have a B16 gen1 in a 94 cx. Running a 'teg LS harness to the B16 ECU. Vtec is not hooked up yet... The problem is, when the engine is started, no coolant is running in or out of the motor. Is there a way i can diagnois this problem? Could it be the Vtec not being hooked up?.... heard about that a while ago, something like Vtec somewhat controls part of the cooling of the engine. I need your help guys, I'm at a standstill, don't know what the problem is. Last resort would just be replacing parts..... Thanks in advance for the advice/help.

try your thermostat, its like a valve, when the coolant gets to the right temperature, your thermostat will open up, and coolant will run through your engine.

it's most def. your thermostat. BTW don't be cheap, get a honda one. They are much better.

when your first start it, in my understanding, coolant shouldnt be running from the radiator to the block. it just circulates in the block until it warms . THEN your thermostat will open as needed.
oh and the part about VTEC.
on the jdm engines, instead of an oil pressure sensor to allow vtec, its done by a coolant temp sensor.
so the jdm engines have to warm up, rather than the usdm ones have to get oil pressure in order for vtec to kick in.
im not sure if its controlled though the ecu, or if its just a switch (jdm engines)

Thanks guys, appreciate the help... I've tried the thermostat already, and it still runs hot (past the middle marker on the gauge) after about a minute or so... Is there a way I could check the water pump to see if it's good or bad, before I have to remove everything and get it out of the motor??? Thanks again for the help guys... this is my first 'swap' by the waym, and any comments or tips would be a great help....

If the water pump was bad it would be dripping from the weep hole.
Make sure you hooked all the coolant hoses up right, and one isn't pinched or sucked closed.
