Overheating problems
 

When i drive my car on the highway it starts to overheat, i cant figure out why it does anyone have any idea why it would? and my friends car spews white smoke which i read on here means coolant anyone know what could fix that? thanks for any help

come on somebody has to know..... i have to drive a half hour to naugatuck there and back every weekday so i need it to stop overheating!!!

low coolant, or obstructed radiator more then likely.

As for your friends car sounds like a head gasket issue.

Thanks for the help and yeah we asked somebody about what was wrong with my friends car and he said the same thing so hes gonna check that out today thanks for the help ill try a new radiator today

I'd check the thermostat before I'd buy a radiator.

Your problem is probably a coolant flow problem caused by either low coolant level or some kind of obstruction in the cooling system. Could be something as simple as a bad thermostat or bad radiator cap. Have you checked your coolant level (the engine has to be cool)? If it is low you will need to find out how the coolant is escaping. It can be leaking out or leaking in to your engine, if it is leaking out you should be able to see some on the ground where you park, if it is leaking internal you should see white smoke from your tailpipe. The latter sounds like your friends problem even though you did not say he was having an overheating problem.

sorry haven't posted but i just noticed a little bit of antifreeze is leaking but i can't tell where the leak is coming from, theres a little puddle not really a lot of antifreeze from around the tranny and where the lower radiator hose is but i checked the lower radiator hose and nothings wrong with it and i checked all the other hoses near it and still couldn't find anything wrong

over heating could be caused by many thing. first low coolant level, leak, bad thermostate, ristriction in flow, clogged radiator, bad water pump, bad head gasket, or air pocket in cooling system.

if it was the thermostat wouldn't that mean that there wouldn't be heat if i turned it on? and there was a problem with the water pump on my mini-me and the leak was coming from that area, but with the z6 it's coming from near the tranny like i said and there is no white smoke coming out of my exhaust so i doubt it would be the head gasket.

you would still get heat even if the thermostate is bad. as far as the leak by the tranny could be seepage through the head gasket, honda is notorious for it. it coul also be a hose that is leaking, check hoses, and clamps. a weak clamp can let seepage through the hose. i had a gasket blow between cylinders before that caused overheating. i also had a time on a rebuilt motor wanting to over heat after a couple of minutes runnig, so i bled the cooling system, and vacumed the system also, that fixed my problem, it had air pockets in the system.

on your problem check hose, or head gasket. change whats needed to stop the leak, and see if that stops your over heating.
