i have a b16 sirII motor in my EG. I have a problem with the car wanting to overheat. It was overheating everytime i drove it about 3 days ago, so i replaced the thermostat and it seemed to fix it to a certain point. But now when i drive it it still tends to heat up more than it should when i stop at lights and **** like that. But then when i take off down the road again it goes back to a little over 180. And i replaced the water pump about 2 months ago, it has a brand new honda thermostat and the radiator is not restricted. Anyone had this problem or have any useful suggestions on how to fix this problem???

Did you bleed the system after installing the components? I had the same problem last month.

If you did bleed the system and are certain that there are no bubbles left in there, how is the coolant level? are you losing any? are you blowing white smoke?

i did bleed the coolant system, and i'm pretty sure there are no bubbles but it won't hurt to do it again. The coolant level is good and there is no white smoke so i don't think its a head gasket. Any other possible ideas??

maybe one of your hoses is leaking one of my friends car had that problem we fixed it and its all back to normal

how big of a leak in the radiator or hose would it take for the car to do that? because if there is a leak it is a very small one because my coolant level seems to be fine.

It would have to be a big leak to overheat, or did you check the car once its warm for pressure?does it have pressure in the system if you do then you don't have a leak. (don't take off the cap but feel the rubber line going to the rad)Maybe you installed the thermo wrong or bad headgasket would be my guess.

the thermostat is in and working correctly. Haven't checked for pressure yet but need to do so. Here is what is going on. I'm driving to my friends house which is about a mile down the road. When i first start the car it warms up like usual. But when i start driving it starts to go up quicker. I also noticed that when i ride with the heat on it tends to run hotter than it should, and when i turn the heat off it drops back down to where it should be. Any ideas? I know this is totally *** backwards of what should be happening, but thats what is going on. I'm thinking there might just be an air pocket trapped in the cooling system somewhere. But any help will be greatly appreciated at this point.

when was the last time you flushed the radiator? Radiator cap still good? Bleed the air out of the cooling system? what's the coolant mixture?

What kind of radiator are you useing? Single core dual core? That might be an issue also that or the fan maybe.

change the radiator cap. i bet it is not building enough pressure. same thing was happening to me a whille ago. it did the trick.

sounds like you might have air in your line. if not check to see if your fan isn't kicking. it is usually something easy when it cools itself off while your moving. because it is getting a fresh air supply

dont want to jack your thread or anything..

but i had the same problem awhile back, after the 2nd time i replaced the termostat and couldnt figure out what else it would be, i just pulled the thermostat out and have been running without one ever since..

but does anyone know any problems i could eventually run into with no therm.??

If it overheats while you are stopped it's probably your fan.

OK, at this point i've tried almost everything. I flushed the radiator, checked to make sure the thermostat was in right and that it opens at the right temp, i bled the cooling system when i put the thermostat in and it seemed fine, and the fan is wired to a switch because it would never turn on. i'm still running the stock eg radiator. i'll replace the cap tomorrow and bleed the system once more to see if thats the problem. other than that i'm about ready to upgrade the entire cooling system because this is really pissing me off. also anyone have a certain or special way of bleeding the system that will be sure of getting all the air out. thanks again for all the advice.

also anyone know anything about the 2" thick aluminum radiators that street imports is selling on the sponsor market place? Feed back from someone who has one or knows someone who is running one would be great.

burp the rad, if its not that then your looking for a posible headgasket problem, just make sure your rad doesnt explode from the built up presure. No matter what kinda honda rad u have over the 90's there all more then enuph for the motors, i think your head gasket is gone check for coolent in your motor oil, and check if u get this really milky consistancy gunk build up, or waxy stuff when u take off your rad cap, if so then i guess is time to change it up.

everthing is fine now. i bled the system once again and found an air pocket hiding in there. The car is back to normal now. I really appreciate everyones advise. thanks for the help.
