im guessing if you got a new headgasket. You must have previously removed the head. Try getting it resurfaced and balance. I had the same problem of overheating until i got the head resurfaced.

fan is coming on... but only once when it reaches about 3 quarter of the way on the guage... and then when it does come on... it only cools the temp down to half and it'll start rising again.

exaclty, i had the same problem before, when i reliezed i wasnt getting my fan to come on, i thought about everything and once i bleed the system again, it fixed itself. try everything stupid you can before you start ripping apart the motor

did you pump the air out of the motor after you put in the anti-freeze. If you didn't than maybe you have some trapped air inside the motor. I had the same problem after doing a b16 swap into my hatch.

Sounds to me like your fan is jacked. Run it to an ignition hot wire so it runs all the time while the car is on. I had to do that. Car runs cooler than ever. Even if its not the problem, its not a bad idea.

ok, first thing i did was open the bleeder on your thermostat, start pouring in the coolant into the rad and wait for fluid to come out of the bleeder, i then ran the car for a few minuted without therad cap on to make sure i got all the air out. i couldnt be missing a step in there or something but thats how i did it and it worked fine

Start the car with the radiator cap off. Let it run until you get no more bubbles in your radiator. Add fluid as needed to keep it full. Usually takes about 5-15 minutes. After no more bubbles, put the cap on, fill the res and your good to go.
