I live in the tropics so we took out the thermostat- don't need it. then we hooked up the fan to past the relay and just let it come on with the ignition. so the fans working, no thermostat to block flow, but it suddenly started to run hot. the gauge just showed it rising in heat. what else would cause this ?? help guys

How about fixing the car to run like it was supposed to? With everything intact. No reason to run it otherwise.

Your engine needs a thermostat EVEN in the tropics.

Losing coolant?

Have you bled the cooling system or replaced the radiator or radiator cap?

Have you tested for a blown head gasket?

The thermostat serves a purpose. Without it the fluid can move through the radiator too fast causing it to overheat, our can move to slowly causing it to run to cool.

Could be a bad radiator (cooling fins detached from the core).
Could be a blown headgasket (any bubbles in the overflow bottle at idle?)

Fast flowing coolants don't have time to absorb the engine heat.

When you remove the thermostat sometimes the block and head are cooler in one location (near thermostat housing) and hotter at the opposite side of the engine. This can cause warpage of the head and a blown headgasket.
