Overheating , but not sure why?

Overheating , but not sure why?
I have a 92 civic hatch , with the 1.5 16valve enngine (D15) . My wife called me about 2 months ago while she was driving to work and told me the car was spewing steam and overheating . I went out and checked and found the coolant was very low . I topped it up and bled it out throught the bleeder screw . She drove it to work and then home after . It was fine until she was almost home , and the temp gauge went high . I replaced the thermostat and rad cap . Ever since I have had to add coolant on an ever increasing rate . I can't find any signs of a leak , there is no white smoke from the tail pipe , there is no cross-contamination , and I get no bubbles in the cooling system while the car is running . I get a lot of steam coming from the overflow tank , and the rad is almost empty after driving for 20-30 mins of city driving . I have assumed it was just the headgasket , but now I'm not sure . Any thoughts or suggestions?

try checking the radiator carefully. it might be leaking then burning off so u cant notice a leak. my rad was leaking from the top and it was barely noticeable. but i had to add coolant like once a day

I've checked that , plus the system seems to be able to hold pressure , as well as the fans are turning on properly . One thing that has been brought up before is possible water pump . Any thoughts on that?

Try bleeding the cooling system this way:
(this may take 20-30 minutes)
1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.
2) Push the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat.
3) Follow the directions in the diagram below (hint: the bleed bolt is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine):
