overheated and shut off!! Help me out!

Default overheated and shut off!! Help me out!

Well this morning at about 5 A.M. I was driveing to work half asleep and all the sudden my check engine light came on in my 93 Si hatch (d16z6 work car) so I figured I would pull over a mile ahead at the next exit and check it out. Then the car got really slugish and acted like the distributor was going out or something the lights in the dash don't work so I can't see **** on the guages. As I get off at the exit the car shuts off and I coast into the gas station. The car starts to steam from under the hood once I parked. So I get out and take a look and the upper rad hose is completely split and there is NO coolant at all in the car! I get in the car and click the key to the on position and sure enough the temp needle shoots straight to above the H! I pull the dipstick and the oil smells good and burnt and it is overfull (assumeing blown head gasket)
So my question is I know the head gasket is blown and the head needs to be milled flat but what else could be messed up that I should check?

Also please don't turn this into a "you *** you should have pulled over" thread I know I should have pulled over sooner but I didn't even think about the car overheating I was just trying to get to work.

may check the compression in your block.....could have a piston welded to the cylinder.

that does not sound too pretty!
I am still waiting on the wrecker to go get the car so I can get it home and tear it down! (Fingers Crossed)

Doubtful, very very doubtful.

Check your compression to see if the head gasket is blown or not. I threw two rods in my Y7, crashed valves, split the cam and the crank, broke the main caps into about 7 pieces and after all of the the head gasket seemed to be just fine.

well I am hopeing that all I did was blow the gasket and I can slap a new one in and get the head milled and be on my way! Thats the best case senario right now! I know the head gasket blew because you can pull the dipstick and it is way over full.

usually when the car's cooling system stops working, the engine gets really hot, when it shuts off, that's usually a sign of something just bent and will not budge, or it could be a sieze, which would mean your piston melted to the cylinder because the cylinder contracted and was too small for the piston to move. I'm subscribing to this thread because I wanna know what 'ya blowed up'. I do hope it's something small and that I'm wrong......but we'll see won'I guess, best of luck.

Well the car will still turn over but will not start which I imagine is because of a blown headgasket. It is raining right now and my crx is already torn down in the garage so there is no room in there I will have to wait until the rain goes by and I will tear it down, I will keep you guys updated!

well I tried to crank it up and it will turn over and wants to start but will not run. I will pull the head tommorrow.

i know 96+ accords do this so u dont blow ur engine or a head gasket its a good thing!
