Default overfuelling

I just had a new HG and valve stem seals fitted cause the car was smoking at high rpms (5k+).
The smoke is still there and the garage reckon the car is overfuelling.
Why would a stock D16 with I/H/E overfuel?? - this is at WOT so I thought 02 sensor does not come into play. Fuel pressure is fine. When I pull off the air filter and the sensor from it, it seems to run a bit better (more power although still not perfect)
I have done an auto>manual conversion and retained auto ecu, only CEL is auto trans lockup.
Thanks

I assume the smoke is black since they are calling it excesse fuel. true? or is it another colour?

possible the ecu is throughing your car into limp mode cause of the CEL, and is over fueling it to be safe. that was my first thought.

dick much? when did he say that it came with that? he said he had an otherwise stock dseries. maybe you should take a reading comprehension class before you try to make someone look bad on the internet.

that means it's stock other than the i/h/e. as in No other modifications other than what's listed. as in , no port and polish, no upgraded valvetrain, etc.

no offense but does it really make any difference on the problem? I doubt it. Lets get back to helping this guy out

Thanks for the inputs guys...even if not very constructive. :D

OK so the HEAD/BLOCK are stock, and the ECU is the stocker for this car (in auto form) P2E

Would the ECU go into limp mode with the CEL I have (auto trans lockup) - i have never heard this before...

More worrying is that I have the original manual ECU from the car I took the engine/box out of, but the car wont start with it in (however it does not throw a CEL at all)

Smoke is black, with a hint of blue now and again (bore wash?) - the garage assures me compression is good, and pistons are good since they checked when they swapped the HG. They are now saying "oh its your wiring on the auto>manual conversion causing the problem"

Im gonna try changing the MAP sensor, I dont have a spare ECT sensor around though.

If I dont get it fixed soon I am ripping it apart and starting again with a Z6. This engine is 62k, has just had $700 spent on it, and it still sucks. I should have stayed auto, my car was fine then!

Thanks and bump for any more info

Bump for replacing the MAP sensor, feels a little better on the butt dyno but still smoking 5krpm+

Is it possible they could have missed the rings being shot? I am seeing a bit more blue in this smoke than I would like to.

tuck they did a leakdown and compression test last week and fitted new valve stem oil seals and a head gasket. They checked the pistons and said they were fine....

I just fitted a B&M FPR and reducing the fuel pressure down to around 28psi idle 32psi when revving seems to have helped A LOT. Now I dont have lots of smoke.....but still a little when I rev to 6krpm at standstill and watch the exhaust....(could just be old stuff burning off I gues)
Performance feels so-so but it is definetly smoother at the top end and more willing to rev up there....progress at last!
