Welp, I took my LS VC off to put my new one on and I didn't know that the studs that hold the VC on were so fragile, something like 7ft/lbs is all thats needed, well I cranked too much. Anyways, are they hard to replace? Anyone done this before the replaced it themselves that could help me out?

on myself..oh well, my fault, but I've learned from it.

Live and learn. You could just leave it alone and youll be fine. Dont really know how you replace them, i think they unscrew with vice grips

go to any auto part store and ask for easy outs.. basically its a reversed thread bit and it extracts the bolt or screw out. i have a set handy best 6 bux ive invested and saved many peoples ***'s with them.

I hope thats a joke, I would never agree to buy a new car over a simple bolt.

Anyway, look at this picture, you see that the valve cover bolts on my D15b7 are removed (for replacement/inspection or what have you) simply by using a 10mm wrench:




Now, why would honda use such design in my punny engine but not whatever _beast_ you may have?

I did this to three of mine Valvecover bolts, the tourqe wrench I was using was fucked up and the noise I thought I heard from the t-wrench was the bolts busting in half.

I had to use an easy out like someone else said. Basically you have to drill, yes I said drill into the rest of the bolt that is left down in the hole, then use the easy out to get the rest of the bolt out. They worked great for me except the last bolt, the damn drill bit broke off in the hole also, that was fun, it took two days to get the drill bit out then I still had to get the broken bolt out. I finally did and did not **** up the threads.

IF any part of the bolt is still sticking out of the valvecover, get a set of vice grips and clamp then on ******* tight and you can most likely turn it back out.

unless is broke flush with the head [nothing sticking out] vise grips will allow you to get the broken bolt out.

if you need to drill and use an easy out make sure you cover the head well with rags. you don't want any of the metal [which the drill will shoot all over the place] getting in the head.

the studs on the valve cover itself are just held in with grommets...

Just remove the VC and get a new VC bolt it is not that hard.... I had to do this on my B16 x2

if the bolt is sticking out a little use vise grips and if you cant get a good grip with the vise grips take a punch and hammer on the end and tap the punch witht the hammer to work it out a few treads then use the vise grips rest of the way .

Thanks for all the help, this does help and Now I can fix it. I do believe that some of the stud is still sticking up. so I'm going to unscrew it witht he vice grips first.

Yes it was a joke, Mr. Pham was trying to make a cool guy, smart *** comment...idiot in my book.

Anyways, yeh I don't know why honda made these so weak, but they did and now I know what NOT to do next time.
