Default over heating problem

i got a 93 civic DX with 125k on it. Just recently when i drive my car for a long period of time or when i shift at higher RPM's my temp guage is fine....but its when i come to a stop and let my car idle for a few minutes i notice my needle moving above the 1/2 line. It has new thermostat!! any one got any ideas why it could be doin that.

..............when that i happens i shut off my car and turn it back on, the temp gauge becomes normal again. i apprciate the help. thanks

make sure your fan is working, let it sit, when it heats up, look under the hood, if the fan isnt spinning, you need a coolant temperature switch or a new fan.
