Re-check your connections inside the dizzy. Mine was doing this AND mis-firing.
A connector was slipped on with the spade just inside the connector boot instead of inside the female part of the terminal.
Revved happily after connecting
Was it doing this before the new parts? Were they replaced trying to fix this?

Re: over 5,000rpm needle jumps (HATCHingMN)
I tried changing the parts because I was told that could be it. Everything looks good in the dizzy, I don't know what else to check. It's not the clutch because it would slip making the rpm raise fast and not jumping back and forth.

i had the same proble last week, my tach was jumping all over the place and missing, then it would die sometimes and i would have to tow it home then sometimes it would fire right up. i had a remanufactured dizzy from dizzy king and their IGNITORS are **** and i replaced mine with 1 from my old CRX i had lying around and it works A-1.
something i learned personally, and poeple on here said it wouldnt work was that ALL ignitors for all dizzys are compatible OBD0-OBD2. u just have to change the mounting heat sink on it. ill find the link on how to do it.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by eg4door »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I changed the ignitor and still does it. It doesnt miss fire or anything. It drives fine just sometime at high rpm it jumps all over. </TD></TR></TABLE>
When you say 'jumps all over' will it get up to 9,000 or something? Or does it stay in the 5,000 area?
