Default are our distributors prone to dying?

95 civic ex, manual - stock.

i've been hearing that our distributors like to die on us, sometimes in the middle of the highway. is this true?

since i regularly make 200+ mile trips, should i maybe buy a second distributor and stash it in my trunk, just in case?

I have close to 115k on a boosted motor and have had no problems with mine. Just change your rotor/cap when you're supossed to and you should be fine.

Honda ignitors often go bad. I had to replace mine a few times with my old car with various motors.

I just had a dizzy go bad on me. It was on a second gen b16 so mileage was a little unknown.

true that, my ignitor just went a couple weeks ago at 99k, although the distributor was from a junkyard, don't know the mileage.

Replaced mine twice in 2 years, but that was with the ls swap. IMO the single cams have a bit more life to em.

My distributor died and messed everything up. I jumped a tooth so that had to be fixed. For future reference if your distributor goes triple check your timing.

I have had two ignition coils go out. One on my single cam and one on my gsr. I also was with a friend once and his single cam distributer failed on us leaving us stranded.

my bro-inlaws brother's gf(i know, very long) has a 92? dx that has 30K on it. no BS. my car is out of commission so im borrowing it right now and the dizzy died on me! hella mad.

it wasnt just the igniter(i've had plenty of igniter problems before). at first i thought it was that, but when my buddy brought my gsr dizyy hoping to swap the igniter, the whole shaft of the DX dizzy was fucked! couldnt believe it... keep in mind i was 30 plus mile away from home!

i went on a 600 mile road trip this weekend with a bad cap and rotor, everything was perfectly fine other than getting bad gas mileage.
